Green Hydrogen Plant

L&T’s Green Hydrogen Plant at the A. M. Naik Heavy Engineering Complex, Hazira, is a state-of-the-art facility designed to test alkaline water electrolysers up to 1MW capacity.

The plant is powered by a 990 kW rooftop solar array (DC peak), supported by a 500 kWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) to ensure reliable operation of critical loads.

The high pressure alkaline electrolyser stacks can produce up to 50 tonnes per annum of high-purity hydrogen (99.99%), which is blended with natural gas and used in L&T’s fabrication shops at Hazira. In addition, high-purity oxygen, generated as a valuable by-product, can be utilized in cutting applications.

To ensure safe and efficient operations, the plant is equipped with comprehensive active and passive safety systems and is managed through a modern command-and-control centre with remote monitoring capabilities.

An integrated data analytics platform developed by L&T provides real-time insights into electrolyser and plant performance. By continuously capturing operating data and applying predictive analytics, the system optimizes schedules based on solar generation, hydrogen storage levels, and downstream consumption requirements.

Hazira (Surat, India)

Located on the banks of the Tapti River (300 km north of Mumbai and 21 km off Surat), Hazira is India’s largest industrial hub. The fast-growing town enjoys excellent surface connectivity through NH-6 and NH-8, and has a multi-cargo port.

A new coastal highway connecting Hazira with Navsari and a project to expand NH- 6 from four to six lanes is underway.
